Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival
The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival is an annual classical music festival held each summer throughout the state of Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany. The festival was founded in 1986 by the German pianist Justus Frantz and is one of the largest classical music festivals in the world. In 2007 the 22nd festival focused on the music of Hungary, and the 2008 festival will focus on Russia.
Concerts are held in the cities of Lübeck, Kiel and Flensburg, as well as in the countryside in castles, manors or small Gothic village churches. Most of the locations are also historic sites of great interest, famous monuments and UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the Musikhochschule (Conservatoire) in Lübeck.
